Lourdes Vargas Castillo

Lourdes Vargas Castillo graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and from the University of California, Berkeley with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.  Lourdes worked as a Radio Frequency Engineer designing and working on cellular systems across the globe during her tenure with BellSouth International.  Lourdes can very proudly say she helped design the largest TDMA cellular system of the time in São Paulo, Brazil.
In addition, Lourdes ran her own business retailing Far Infrared Rays producing medical devices in Miami and surrounding areas for about 10 years.  Her background in engineering was a strong factor as she presented her products and also maintained her customers’ products in good working conditions.

During Lourdes’ years at CSUN, she was very involved with SHPE/CSUN and served as its President during 1985-86.  She was also active at the professional level and served as 2nd VP for SHPE LA and at the national level in several committees.

Furthermore, Lourdes was selected to be a member of the National Hispana Leadership Institute and graduated as a member of the class ‘92.  Her training took place in several locations which included the Harvard University School of Government and Washington, DC.
